Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese’s film explores grief, resistance, and the fight to preserve ancestral
land in Lesotho.
Mantoa, an 80-year-old widow is preparing for her own funeral while grappling with the deaths
of her husband and children. Her village faces forced resettlement due to the construction of a
dam, threatening to erase her homeland and ancestral burial grounds. Confronted with this
existential threat, Mantoa finds renewed purpose and becomes a symbol of resistance,
mobilising her community to fight for their land and heritage.
This film will be introduced by Misa Mlambo - a South African creative producer and filmmaker
based in London, working across film campaigns and their own practice as a writer and director.
This screening is curated by Meliza George as part of ‘Whose Land? Whose Lens?’ a season of
works from the global south discussing the protection of land and therefore peoples through the
